Employee Spotlight- Dorothy Schuld-Johnson

Dorothy Schuld-Johnson - Employee SPotlightDorothy Schuld-Johnson is our February 2016 employee spotlight.  Dorothy is an LVT, which is a licensed veterinary technician.  This means that she went to college to obtain her degree as a licensed technician.  Some people call them "veterinary nurses" because essentially, technicians provide the same type of care for animals as human nurses do for people.  Veterinary technicians triage patients based on severity, assess emergencies, monitor anesthetic surgical procedures, clean teeth on patients during dental procedures, place catheters, tech rooms to get history and vitals and even assist in end of life appointments.  Technicians are the heart of a veterinary practice and Dorothy has a huge heart.

Dorothy Schuld-Johnson - Employee SpotlightDorothy has worked for Animal Hospital of Rowlett since 1999! She has been our inventory manager, our nurse manager, and has even taken courses in physical therapy and rehab for animals. Dorothy is always seeking out new CE opportunities to further her career and she loves to learn and gain knowledge.  She has had extensive training in animal dental cleanings and is a very thorough dental anesthetist.  She got her RVT degree at Texas State Technical Institute in Waco and in the last few years the "R" for registered was changed to "L" for licensed.

Dorothy Schuld-Johnson - Employee SpotlightDorothy has two kids and a beautiful grandson!  We call her the chihuahua whisperer, though she handles cats as gracefully as she does doggies.  She is originally from Cleveland Ohio and frequently travels North to visit family and friends.  Dorothy used to have an SUV covered in bumper stickers and you always knew it was her driving down the road...but now she has an adorable Mini Cooper!

As if being a full time veterinary technician at AHR wasn't enough, Dorothy also works weekends at the local emergency clinic, Lake Ray Hubbard Pet ER.  She has truly dedicated her life to veterinary medicine and it shows!  She is one of the most knowledgeable technicians we've known...and can do crazy hard tasks like placing a nasal oxygen cannula.  She is really amazing!  If you see Dorothy this month, give her a high five for being awesome!
